There once was a heart that was cold…
It didn’t quite fit the mold…
of the soul that was its host,
but it understood her better than most.
The soul knew that something was wrong
and that she should belong.
But the song that she sang
only caused more pain-
While it wasn’t in vain,
It was tired and strained.
There once was a heart that was cold,
It didn’t know how to be bold.
It would feel, and feel and feel…
but its true feelings it couldn’t reveal.
The soul knew that something was wrong,
that it should be strong.
So the heart inside
the soul that cried,
decided to try,
but in failure it sighed.
There once was a heart that was cold,
that let no one behold
the grace that was within,
this now rusted heart of tin.
The soul knew that something was wrong
and that she could just get along.
Live life as careful as she could
and avoid opening herself, so misunderstood.
It worked as long as she bottled it in vain
and she thought she felt safe again…
*There once was a heart that was cold...
that was weakened, and fragile and old...
It never saw that sun, in sorrow it stood afraid.
began hoping that somday
that soul wouldn't know what was wrong.
That it's feelings may die in confussion...
It was dry, and hard
It was glass- every part
It was weaker than life
It could only see it's strife.
There once was a heart that was cold…
It was broken, and shattered I’m told.
And the soul that was a prisoner inside?
Was set free to live its life.
All because the soul knew something was wrong
and savior stepped in with a song.
Something for her to sing,
remembering
the torment that once lived inside
that heart that is revived.
